 | I have the immense pleasure of announcing the addition of photos and memorabilia today on this Memorial Day from the Harold (Hal) Roberts collection reflecting the life of the men of the 596 Airborne Engineering Company attached to the 517 Parachute Regimental Combat Team in World War II. What Does Memorial Day Mean to Me? It means that others gave their lives so that I can write this message. It means that we live in a free society because of the ultimate sacrifice made by others. We have had it easy for so long that I believe that many have lost touch with the real heroes in our society... not movie stars... not athletes, but those who believe so much in this country and our way of life that they do not hesitate to fight for people’s right to be free. These men who represent US in the battlefield are our heroes, and they deserve our respect. ... They have mine. |
